I was unable to find functional pet beds that complement my living room furniture, I went ahead and DIY a dog bed with curtains. It worked out really well functionally. It performs like an extra side table. The additional storage shelf holds toys and other items, the top can be used to display items. The tiled floor makes for easy cleaning. As for my puppy, it gives him the feeling that this is his own space.
I’m really proud of the mudroom I built in my entryway. Though some of the items came from my local hardware store, a lot of it is from IKEA. The thing that took the most time was building the framing behind the IKEA furniture. Because of the skirting board, the BESTÅ units at the bottom sat about an inch in front of the wall.
After installing a second prep sink as a non-IKEA stainless steel sink and all the plumbing (drain, waste, vent & supply lines), we wanted to maximize the storage space with additional drawers. To match the remainder of our kitchen cabinets, we of course were using Maximera Drawers, with either the flat white inside false fronts, or the Dark Gray Axstad drawer fronts.
Japanese Kumiko is getting very popular with woodworkers. High-end how-to magazines like Fine Woodworking have featured a number of articles in the past few years on how to make the smaller (6”square and ½” tall) Kumiko pieces. For my project, I made 14 of the Kumiko pieces. I made two frames of seven Kumiko pieces each.
For the love of the surf. When you’re not surfing, wall mount your surfboard, both to store and use them as statement pieces. There are plenty of readymade surfboard wall mounts but if you’re in the mood for a simple IKEA hack, or perhaps you already have these items in hand, you can very easily wall mount your surfboards and display them loud and proud.
This custom walk-in closet took me SO LONG. Not because it was difficult to build but because I was meticulous about making sure I didn't make any huge errors that would cost me extra wood! What started at a wallpaper 1970's closet turned into a modern, custom closet with maple plywood, shoe storage, and even a desk that can be used for extra office space or as a vanity!
