Kösem Sultan (Mâh-Peyker Sultan) 1589-1651 was one of the most powerful women in Ottoman history. She achieved power and influenced the course of the Ottoman empire through her consort Sultan Ahmet I, then through her sons Murad IV and Ibrahim I ('the Mad’) and finally through her minor grandson Mehmed IV. She was regent twice and was thereby one of two women to have been formal regents of the Ottoman Empire. It is rumored that Mehmed's mother Turhan Hatice ordered Kösem's assassination.

Niloufer Farhat Begum Sahiba (b January 4, 1916) was one of the last princesses of the Ottoman Empire. She was married to the second son of the last Nizam of Hyderabad in India Moazzam Jah. She was judged one of the 10 most beautiful women in the world. She died in Paris on June 12, 1989.
