Hagia Sophia is a former Greek church, later an imperial mosque, and now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. From the date of its construction in 537 until 1453, it served as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral and seat of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, except between 1204 and 1261, when it was converted to a Roman Catholic cathedral under the Latin Empire. The building was a mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1931. It was then secularized and opened as a museum on 1 February 1935

Petra - the fabled Rose-Red Nabatean city located in Jordan. It is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and was once the capital of the Nabatean kingdom during the 6th centtury.  The buildings are carved out of the living rock and can be said to glow during certain times of the day.

Socotra Island - aka Soqotra. The four-island archipelago is located in the Indian Ocean approximately 250km east of the Horn of Africa. It is part of Yemen, Governorate of Hadhramaut. Its isolated position has given rise to spectacular natives endemic to the island including the haunting Dragon's Blood tree (Dracaena cinnibari) and an island chameleon (Chamaeleo monachus)

Kokoda Track - also Kokoda Trail. A 95km track maintained through the highlands of Papau New Guinea in commemoration to the ANZAC and allied troops who fought and died in their hundreds against the Japanese  control and invasion of Port Moresby in 1942. It remains much the same as it did during WWII and those who walk it experience the same grueling conditions as the diggers did.

It was officially cancelled in 2010 due to health and safety concerns but the festival still takes place in an unofficial capacity. The origins of the event are in contention with theories ranging from maintaining grazing borders or pagan origins celebrating the new year.
