This work of art, titled “Prayer Pyramid,” is the creation of Honda Kōichi, a Japanese who has mastered the ancient art of Arabic calligraphy. His works have been displayed at such prestigious venues as the British Museum.

In demand: This work of Islamic calligraphy by Japanese artist Koichi Honda sold for $50,000 in a Sotheby's auction in Doha on Thursday.
Japanese Honda Kōichi, is an Arabic calligrapher. Born in 1946 in Kanagawa Prefecture. President of the Japan Arabic Calligraphy Association and a professor of international relations at Daitō Bunka University.
Nobuko Sagawa is Japan’s second certified master of Arabic calligraphy. In this piece she uses both Middle Eastern reed pens (qalam) for Arabic and Japanese fude (brushes) for Japanese and Chinese to produce what she calls “a collaboration.”
