Bowl Place of origin: Iznik, Turkey (made) Turkey (probably) Date: ca. 1575-1600 Bowl of fritware, painted in red, blue and green on a white ground with a repeating design of pointed medallions filled in with arabesques, and surrounded on either side by a long-stemmed hyacinth; each of these designs is separated by symmetrically-arranged arabesques. Round the top and the base run borders composed of arches in blue enclosing small red floral devices.

A NISHAPUR POTTERY HORSE NORTH EAST PERSIA, 10TH CENTURY Strongly modelled with pronounced saddle and plaited tail, the haunches painted under the clear glaze with manganese bold arabesques, similar reserved motifs flanking the saddle, the mane cursorily indicated, a band of roundels around the chest, the feet dark, the eyes drilled. Very slight restorations. 5in. (14.7cm.) high
