Dervishes were a common subject for foreign photographers of the late Qajar period. These photographs helped to create and fed the stereotypes of exotic Easterners, but nevertheless they are useful historical records of the period.

A dervish leading a dog, Walters Manuscript W.668, fol.69a  This is an album (muraqqaʿ) of Persian and Indian calligraphy and paintings, most probably compiled in the thirteenth century AH / nineteenth CE.

A dervish leading a dog - This color-wash drawing (ca. 1018 AH / 1610 CE) bears the signature of Rāqimuhu Ṣādiqī in pseudo-Kufic script. The Safavid artist Ṣādiqī (eleventh century AH / seventeenth CE) signed other works in the same manner.
