First black Marine Jim Rundles passes away at the age of 94 on March 13, 2014. Jim Rundles came into the Marine Corps at a time that all branches were segregated. He helped bring about the modern thought by Marines that all Marines are just a shade of green. This man survived Montford Point and World War II.
George Peppard Jr. (October 1, 1928 – May 8, 1994) was an American film and television actor and producer. Peppard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 8, 1946 and rose to rank of Corporal in the 10th Marines, leaving the Corps at the end of his period of enlistment in January 1948.
Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller (1898 – 1971) was a retired general officer of the USMC. Lt. Gen. Puller is one of the most, if not the most, decorated combat Marine in Marine Corps history. He is the only Marine to be awarded five Navy Crosses.During his career, he fought guerrillas in Haiti and Nicaragua, and participated in some of the bloodiest battles of WW II and the Korean War. Puller retired from the Marine Corps in 1955, spending the rest of his life in Virginia.
