Silk on linen sampler, dated 1797, probably Scottish, inscribed George and Jean Hercules and Barbara Hendarson
A cotton ‘uckur’ (waistband) with embroidered ends and edged with tubular glass pearls and metal sequins. From the Marmara region, 1925-1950. The edging in Aegean style was added later. The ‘two-sided’ embroidery ((identical on both sides of the fabric) is executed in silk (for the coloured parts) and with metal threads and strips (‘tel kırma’) for the ‘goldwork’. (Inv.nr. brdw021 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
