Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli. In 1927 Nungesser teamed up with the one eyed Coli, a veteran of the Great War and a pioneer in long distance flying, to attempt to cross the Atlantic. Nungesser was a legendary Great War pilot who scored 43 air victories ' while chasing women and boozing'. They left France heading for New York. They never made it. Two weeks after they disappeared Lindbergh successfully crossed the Atlantic.
