Glaisdale, 9 miles south-west of Whitby. At the foot of the steep road that leads up to the village of Glaisdale is one of Yorkshire's well-known landmarks. This is Beggar's Bridge, a packhorse bridge over the River Esk, built in 1619, which has remained unaltered ever since.
