Benny Parsons — 1973 scored perhaps the most improbable championship in NASCAR history in 1973. Entering the season, Parsons had won only one NASCAR Cup race and had finished a career-best fifth in points in 1972, despite going winless. But he won the title by being more consistent than any other driver — compiling one win, 15 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes in 28 races.
