Desmond Thomas Doss (February 7, 1919 – March 23, 2006) was a United States Army corporal and combat medic during World War II. He was assigned to a rifle company of the 1st Battalion, 307th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division, during the Battle of Okinawa, and became the first of three conscientious objectors to receive the Medal of Honor (the others are Thomas W. Bennett and Joseph G. LaPointe, Jr.).
Gabrielle Weidner was a Dutch Seventh Day Adventist resistance fighter during World War II. She and her brother, Johan Hendrik Weidner, with the French Underground, were responsible for saving 1080 persons including 800 Jews and 112 downed Allied Airmen. She was caught and sent to Ravensbrück where she was starved, beaten and used as slave labor. She died of starvation on Feburary 17, 1945, two days after the Soviets liberated the camp.
