Details of a large embroidered headscarf, Crimean Tatar, probably from Romania, c. early 20th century. Called 'marama'. Embroidered on cotton (muslin), 80 x 138 cm. Two stems of stylized flowers and grapes: each motif repeated 3 times along the narrower edge of fabric. Embroidery height (from the tip of flowers to the edge of cloth): 21 cm. Border in double running stitch (a common design in Crimean Tatar embroidery). (The Asiye-Zeynep Collection, Washington DC).
