Louis Sockalexis (1871-1913). A Penobscot Native American who played for the Cleveland "Spiders" from 1897-1899. One myth suggests that the Cleveland "Indians" baseball team was named for Louis. There is also debate as to whether or not he was the first Native American to play Major League Baseball.
