Sophomore’s Nature-Inspired Room
Mahogany McDougle (@_mahoganymcdougle on IG; @mahoganymcdougle on TikTok) nailed the “peaceful” vibe she was after in the bedroom of her on-campus apartment that she shares with three roommates. The Grand Canyon University sophomore recently moved into her new space that she says is “happy and completely me.”

Nyjah Harris, a student at Old Dominion University, wanted to add a few personal touches to her off-campus bedroom to make it feel more like her own. “I am in my room a lot doing homework, studying, and working remotely, and I want it to be comfortable and versatile for every part of my life,” she says. “I was looking for a refreshing, unique design that can last for years to come, so my space feels homey.”

I was inspired by the Pottery Barn x Love Shack Fancy collaboration, and knew I wanted to create a space that reflected that aesthetic. Although I loved the collection, it was quite expensive so I decided to purchase just the bedding and then found more affordable pieces that complemented it. While I usually love bold colors, for this room I focused on soft blues and pastel brights to keep the space light, cheerful, and cohesive.

Cool Girl Dorm Wall Ideas
Once I started approaching home decor/style with the phrase “live with what you love” in mind, my space became much more “me.” As I have mentioned, 95% or more of my home decor is secondhand, which means each thing was found and brought home by me, simply because I loved it, not because it fit a certain vibe or aesthetic I had in mind. Everything is colorful, bright, unique, vintage, and fun.

My gallery wall is a mix of black/white patterns and hues of sage, peach, yellow, and pink. I chose artwork that reflects my love of fashion, nature, travel, and quotes. The gallery wall feels like everything I love mixed together in one slightly chaotic, but nonetheless beautiful arrangement.

This studio is my first time living without roommates, and hence, my first time with total freedom to decorate however I wish. Naturally, this meant pink, plants, and disco balls! I moved into this studio with the intention of making every inch of the 476 square feet reflect my personality and what makes me the happiest. Law school can be tough at times, so I wanted a space that felt like pure positivity and sunshine to get me through long study days.
I Finally Found a Cute Way to Store All My Trinkets
As someone whose desk is currently covered in memorabilia, small crafts, and miniature figures, I know firsthand that tiny trinkets can quickly turn to clutter without a good way to store them. Luckily, this viral TikTok video gives tchotchke lovers — or anyone looking for cute decor — a way to subtly, but charmingly, display your goodies, while still keeping your spaces pristine.
