2004 ALCS Gm 4: Roberts sets up, scores tying run - 14 years ago tonight, Dave Roberts, now the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, stole second base against Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and the Evil Empire (known to a few people as the New York Yankees). If Roberts did not successfully steal this base, the Red Sox would not have won their 1st World Series in 86 years. Many of us consider it to be the most important stolen base in the history of the Boston Red Sox.
Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.
