IV. Murad devrinde (1623–1640) yapılan kadırgalar arasında bir tanesi vardı ki 3.120 mürettebatlı ve 150 toplu adeta bir devdi. 1827 de Navarin faciası ile Osmanlı donanması yakılınca, II. Mahmud süratle donanmayı yeniletti. Gemi mühendislerine inşa ettirttiği 1,400 mürettebatlı 124 toplu gemi vardı ki yeryüzünün en iyi harp gemisiydi, bir benzeri sadece İngiliz donanmasında vardı…
