Ottoman cavalry soldiers. Max Fruchtermann, 1852-1918. The most prominent early publisher of Ottoman postcards from the eastern border of Austria-Hungary he came to the central part of the Ottoman Empire in the 1860s, at the age of seventeen he opened a frame-shop at Yüksekkaldirim Istanbul. It is hard to underestimate his role in the publishing scene that followed. He was one of the first "editeurs" (if not the very first) to create postcards depicting the Ottoman Empire.
