Astrid Lindgren (the mother of Pippi Longstocking and other famous children's books) I loved watching interviews with her (n Swedish) -- she had a lovely turn of phrase, a down to earth, unsentimental but very loving approach to life and a delicious sense of humor.

Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002) was a Swedish writer best known for her children's book series featuring Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson-on-the-Roof, and the Six Bullerby Children (Children of Noisy Village in the US), as well as my favorites The Tomten and The Tomten and the Fox. She is the world's 18th most translated author and the third most translated children's author after H.C. Andersen and the Grimm brothers. Lindgren has sold more than 144 million books worldwide.

Astrid Lindgren -- “I don’t want to write for adults. I want to write for readers who can perform miracles. Only children perform miracles when they read.”
