Linear Equations and System of Equations Cost of College Project

Real-world applications of linear equations and systems of equations when students examine the cost of college. A valuable project for Algebra 2 students.

As a mathematician, I am thankful for shortcuts. I think part of the reason that I have always loved math so much is because I recognize and implement shortcuts. I love to look for patterns in numbers and procedures. I try to share these tips and tricks with my eighth grade math students whenever I can. Here's an easier way to write linear equations in Standard Form. By Free to Discover.

I have done a project similar to this. It adds more rigor if students create their own equations and develop their own design. I usually have them create a certain number of each type of line, have them identify slope, y-intercept, etc. to cover more of what I am teaching on the concept.
