Highland games are events held throughout the year in Scotland & other countries as a way of celebrating Scottish & Celtic culture & heritage, especially that of the Scottish Highlands. Certain aspects of the games are so well known as to have become emblematic of Scotland, such as the bagpipes, kilt, & the heavy events, especially the caber toss. The games also include entertainment & exhibits related to other aspects of Scottish & Gaelic culture.

The Seattle Scottish Highland Games takes place every year during the last weekend of July. Enumclaw is about 40 miles away as the crow flies, but earthbound roads bring the total distance closer to 50 miles. Not sure I'd want to ride there with my kilt exposing my knees though, even if battery life and drafty drawers were nothing to worry about! Still, the massed pipes bring a tear to my eye and my wife loves the games and music.
