Soldiers sacrifice their mental health at war. Seeing all of the gruesome gore, witnessing mass deaths and being involved in stressful situations often leaves a soldier with post-traumatic stress disorder. When a soldier returns home they often cannot go back to their lives like everything is perfectly fine. They have to alter their life because of the war. War can cause men to suffer.

“We will drain our dearest veins, / But they shall be free.” This line reminds me of another poem. Dulce Et Decorum Est, which roughly translates to “it is sweet and fitting to die for one’s country.” Burns's poem shows the opposite, that the deaths dealt during war outweigh victory. The author seems quite genuine which would please many of his readers, as long as they were themselves Scottish. Patriotism is always welcomed. (Prompt 14:2)

B17 (My Uncle was an engineer on one of these planes. Shot down. hid, POW,  freed -camp saved-sent to a "butterball" US hospital camp to recover from near starvation. {butterball may be a term our family used??} He made it home! I am getting correct info. and will repin then. He lived into his early 90's. NEVER used derogatory terms about the then enemy. A real gentleman. More asap  K)
