Mexican long-tongued #bats (Choeronycteris mexicana) eat pollen and nectar of agave--the plant we make tequila from--as well as fruits from several other plants. They have tongues up to a third of their body length to reach nectar deep in flowers, and a distinct nose-leaf. They range from the southernmost areas of the SW USA, into Mexico & parts of Central America. #SummerOfSpecimens In #Florida we have 13 native bat species, but not the Mexican long-tongued bat.
