Kitty is teasing a golden carp or gold fish as we know them now. This is a lovely piece of classic Chinese Art, whether antique or recent, love this style of painting. The bamboo in the background, I think means longevity, the reason I believe it is just toying with the fish. She is drawn full and quite plump, no doubt meaning she is well-fed and has no reason to eat the fish.
