One end (+ detail) of a ‘yağlık’ (large handkerchief or hand towel). Crimean Tatar, from Turkey, ca. 1900. Called 'evciyar' in Crimean Turkish. Linen, 52 x 134cm, embroidered in multi-coloured cotton and metallic (golden) thread. A meandering stem of pomegranates and grapes (flowing water motif). Worked in counted-thread technique. Height of the embroidery (from the tip of flowers to edge of cloth: 13 cm. (The Asiye-Zeynep Collection, Washington DC).
