Bani Thani, born Vishnupriya, was a talented singer and poet in the court of King Sawant Singh of Kishangarh (1748–1764). The king fell in love with her talent & beauty and their love bloomed due to shared interests She became known as 'Bani Thani' - "a well-dressed lady", due to the exquisite jewelry & makeup that she used to adorn herself with after becoming queen. Their love became legendary and inspired much of the evocative and romantic paintings for which Kishangarh is justly famous.
