A set of beautiful Chinese antique screens in natural finish. Each of the five screens has a middle section featuring a different flower, symbolizing changing of seasons. The main openwork was created using the painstaking joinery method. Every little piece is joined together by tenons and mortises, forming the famous "eternity and longevity" pattern. I don't know why, but I just love any piece of furniture with lots of little drawers. Even better if has exotic, oriental writing. I found this at "A New Leaf", a flower shop in Lincoln Park.

dating: 16th Century provenance: China Beautiful manufacture, squared shape, front opening with two doors, complete with elegant, polylobed brass mounts enriching the doors hinges and the four feet, at the centre a bigger decoration with handles. The lateral panels are decorated with a geometrical frame with stylized dragon's heads enclosing two large phoenixes flying over peonies flowers and leaves. Geometrical ground at the front doors enriched with the effigy of pagodas, bridge, boat…

The main feature on this traditional Chinese wedding cabinet is the brass door medallion etched with the Chinese zodiac symbols and other figurals and large vase door pulls. The red lacquer finish has been restored to its original luster. Inside the cabinet are two drawers, three storage sections and a hidden compartment on the bottom shelf. This cabinet would make a great entertainment center. The leg spandrels are curved.
