The 1900s, known as both the Edwardian era and La Belle Époque was a beautiful era for dresses. The invention of the "health corset," later called the S-blend corset, altered the shape of women's 1900s dresses from flat and vertical to curvy. The bust was thrust forward, the back curved inward, and the hips rounded.

Launched In 2005, the eponymous line is crafted by hand in New York City. Jennifer Behr is New York’s foremost atelier, designing elaborate and custom headpieces for fashion shoots and events, all interwoven with a sense of romanticism and ethereal appeal.

So I am planning on putting together an Edwardian adventuress ensemble, the sort of outfit a lady might wear while sketching Egyptian ruins while on a Nile cruise in 1907. I already have an Edwardian corset so I am planning on making a white cotton shirtwaist, a kakhi or brown walking length skirt, and a brown belt/sash. I'll also need a new walking length petticoat but that is more boring. I will be drafting the patterns for these items myself, and I can't wait to get started this upcoming…

It seems like ages since I did any costuming, and summer isn't exactly my favorite season to be layering on corsets and petticoats, but...the time has come for some Edwardian adventure wear! I think I'll start with a simple skirt and an ivory shirtwaist, luckily I already have an Edwardian corset.
