Chest tubes, also known as thoracostomy tubes or pleural drainage tubes, are medical devices used to drain air, fluid, or blood from the pleural space—the area between the lungs and the chest wall. They are inserted through the chest wall into the pleural cavity to help relieve conditions such as pneumothorax (collapsed lung), hemothorax (blood in the pleural space), or pleural effusion (excess fluid accumulation).

Tools: IV line and 2 1ml syringes! Cut the flat ends off the syringes, and thread a doubled IV line through the holes. The end loop will go around the tube itself, and the middle "loop" will go around the maxilla (most dogs) or behind the ears (cats and brachycephalic dogs). These are easier to secure after intubation, and quicker to loosen for extubation. Excellent for wet procedures such as dentistry.
