Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw popularly known as Sam Bahadur, was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.He was responsible for overall planning of the war and gave Pakistan its worst defeat in the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict. East Pakistan became a new separate country now known as Bangladesh and over 90,000 Pakistani troops surrendered.

Major General (2-star) Douglas MacArthur (1880 - 1964) in a 1930 photo was the U.S. Chief of Staff in the U.S. Army in the 1930s and at age 50 was its youngest major general.
