Eurythyrea aurata (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) male. Size: 20mm. This species is the more exotic-looking jewel beetle in Hungary. It can be found in poplar forests near riverbanks in the mid summer: the males fly around the canopy, females sometimes come down laying eggs on fallen or cut trees. A specimen from the collection. Focus stack was taken with the Canon MP-E macro lens, dorsal from 48, ventral from 44 exposures. Magnification ratio: 1,5:1. View the 2700px version!

These beetles are at least as beautiful in flight as in "normal" walking position. The dissimilar colours of the abdomen appear only when they open the elytrae. Obviously it is a rare sight, you should be lucky to observe such a beautiful phenomenon.
