Pyramus and thisbe

They lived next to one another but their parents forbade their love. Pyramus and Thisbe would constantly speak through the wall until they had enough and planned to meet and run away together. The wall symbolizes not only the physically boundaries but the boundaries placed on them by their family for forbidding their love.

It also shows a snow-white mulberry on the left and a blood red one on the right. This shows the transformation of the mulberry tree from white to red after it took one the color of the blood of the two lovers after they killed themselves.

30 x 40 Currently doing one of my favorite pieces, Thisbe. Pyramis is here now too, re-united are the young lovers. Pyramus and Thisbe is the story of two lovers in the city of Babylon who occupy connected houses/walls, forbidden by their parents to be wed, because of their parents' rivalry. Through a crack in one of the walls, they whisper their love for each other. They arrange to meet near at Ninus' tomb under a mulberry tree and state their feelings for each other. Thisbe arrives first…
