You’re lying if you say you’ve never dropped your belay device and watched it go “tink, tink, tink” all the way down to the base of a route. It can happen to anyone. But have no fear: If you have four carabiners of any shape or gate type, plus a locking belay biner, you can make it to the ground. The double carabiner brake rappel is the best way to descend without a traditional rappel device.
Whether you need a new carabiner or a pair of shoes, these guides will help you choose the safest and smartest gear for your climb. Consider all your options before embarking on your next climbing adventure.
Brenna made these signs the night before their elopement. As they rappelled 200ft from their ceremony spot, I noticed something hanging off their backpacks but couldn’t make out what they were. Once their feet were back on solid ground, Brenna showed me their homemade signs hanging from their packs. As they walked up to the overlook, hikers cheered for them when they saw their signs and wedding attire. This is one of my favorite things about adventure elopements.
