Students who are highly motivated readers make more effective use of reading comprehension strategies such as cooperative learning, graphic and semantic organizers, and questioning through a self directed system (Kirmizi, 2011). In order to support reading comprehension strategy use, teachers are encouraged to implement direct instruction on comprehension strategies in curricular and cross curricular areas, and implement a reward system in order to motivate use of these strategies independently.
