With loss of sea ice, Arctic Ocean becoming more of a carbon sink! But, the story is much more complicated than that...some areas are absorbing less CO2 as they warm.

Paradise Bay was one of the last stops on the G Adventures tour I took to Antarctica in January. It was absolutely the best location we had for viewing sea ice. I feel the need to note that the blue colors you see in many of the images was not manipulated. The blues were literally that deep in color.

Despite June 2006 and 2023 levels, Arctic sea ice is decreasing overall due to human emissions-driven warming

The polar ice caps and the Greenland ice sheet are melting six times faster than they were in the 1990s. The high melt rate corresponds to the “worst case scenario” model for global warming set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and means that without sweeping curbs on greenhouse gas emissions, the planet will see a 17-centimetre rise in sea level in just 80 years, putting about 400 million people at risk of annual coastal flooding.
