This is the 4th incarnation of my loom. With the help of my brilliant son and husband, I gathered ideas for the warp roller and here it is! It works great so far and I'm loving how easy it is to move the warp forward. The back piece of PVC has holes drilled in it (I have my own drill press) and a chopstick is inserted in the holes (which are drilled across from each other) to move and hold the roller bar. The loom has "legs" to allow more room for rolled warp. This took many trips to Lowe's…

I’m completely hooked on Tablet weaving. Tablet weaving (or card weaving) uses cards and yarn to create patterned bands. I love the small details, how quickly it weaves up and how useful the finished product is. It’s a surprise every time I turn the cards and a pattern actually emerges! T

This document provides an overview of how to do tablet weaving using the forward/back technique. I've proposed a class in tablet weaving for our local OLLI. I don't know how the proposal will fare, but I'm having fun doing the research. Tablet weaving has been resident in my box of tricks for a long time....

This morning Bob and I left New Mexico and drove almost four hours to the little town of Van Horn, Texas. Van Horn is a town that has little to offer except a place to get off the road when you’re on the way to someplace else. We leave tomorrow morning for Fort Stockton, Texas. I wanted to share about my new loom that Bob made for me. On Ravelry, the inkle weaving group has been discussing Keel Looms, which are built using the plans found in the book “Small Looms in Action,” by Elizabeth…

I love cardweaving. Inkle weaving lets me create longer lengths of weaving but card weaving allows me to create more interesting patterns. Combining the two was problematic but I'm pleased with the results. I still have to comb out the warp sometimes but a girl can't have everything! I can't figure out how to get the tension I want, the lengths I want and the freedom from 'comb-out'. Swivels for each card would dramatically increase the width of loom when I use finer threads. Suggestions…

Showing how to change colours by either rotating the tablet in the opposite direction or by flipping the tablet about its vertical axis then continuing rotation in the same direction At the diagram 1 (notice the numbers I have put on the picture), the tablet is threaded up and ready to go. It is turned forward 1/4 turn to get to diagram 2. You can see that the hole that was at position A rises up - this thread will be on the top of the weave, so this line of weave will be blue. At diagram 2…
