A Havisham Halloween - The Makerista

If you’re new around here, you might be surprised to know I love Halloween. It’s nostalgic, fun, and a good excuse to play a part and decorate a room. Every year I try to do something a bit different (from curiosities, to bones, to creepy chic). In the past it’s mainly been about channeling a look, but this year I had something specific in mind: Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens Great Expectations. It was actually one of you who gave me the idea on Instagram one day, and I forgot how much I…

A Few Photos Of My Spooky Victorian Home This Halloween Season! Interior & Exterior Decorations

It’s that time of the year when we roll up our sleeves, get into the creative mood and make something so spookily wonderful that it sends chills down the neighbors' spine. You all know I love Halloween, but this time I went a bit bananas. Ha. I hosted my neighborhood bunko group for the month of October, and I saw it as a perfect opportunity to do so. In the past I’ve picked a room to spookify (the library and the dining room) and gone all out in that space, but this year I wanted to add a bit of haunt to all of the main rooms. Aside from my Miss Havisham set up, here is how I added some creep. Unfortunately most of these items are old or are sold out, but you…

French Country Halloween Part Four

This year in the back parlor, I decided to go with a skeleton theme for Halloween. I wanted to create a not so spooky, but very sweet, Skeleton Family. We even have some skeleton rats scurrying about. I had fun dressing each family member in vintage fashion. The Mother skeleton is wearing a fur cape that I recently thrifted as well a vintage pink feathery hat. The baby skeleton is dressed in an antique baby christening gown and bonnet trimmed with lace. Our skeleton kitty is a new addition…
