(8.4 cm)    Centuries before block printing was introduced in Europe, the technique was used in the Islamic world to produce miniature texts consisting of prayers, incantations, and Qur’anic verses that were kept in amulet boxes. The text on this amulet is in the angular kufic script. The six-pointed star, a familiar symbol in Islamic art, is usually called "Solomon's seal."

Helmet, mid-16th century; Ottoman period Turkish Steel, damascened with gold  This helmet was forged from watered steel and decorated in gold with arabesques and Qur’anic inscriptions. It is similar to a helmet (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna) made about 1560 for a grand vizier of the Ottoman sultan Süleyman the Magnificent (r. 1520–66). Both helmets were presumably made in one of the imperial workshops in Istanbul.
