Istanbul’s taxis are quick, efficient and relatively cheap. All taxis are obliged to run the meter (called the ‘taksimetre’) upon departure. The base rate is 2.70 TL, and 1.7 TL foreach km afterwards; and this is the standard fare – there is no extra cost at night or for longer distances. An average taxi ride from Taksim to Sultanahmet should cost no more than 15 TL.
