I have this thing with pumpkins. I hate throwing them out before they have rotted - it just feels wrong to me! Once in college, my pumpkin was still perfectly fine at Christmas, so I put painted a face on it, glued a beard to it, and topped it with a Santa hat. When Valentines Day rolled around, my little pumpkin was still going strong, so I gathered the neighborhood children, and we painted red, pink, and white hearts on it. Fall pumpkins ... repurposed !

I have trouble throwing away a live plant just because it is out of season and the same hold true for me and pumpkins. Like the poinsettia, the pumpkin causes me some anxiety at the end of the season. It's food, yet not one that I like to eat, and it's still fresh ,so I can't justify throwing it out. So to ease my guilty conscience this is what I came up with this year.. Christmas Caroling Pumpkins. My husband thinks I'm insane, but I kind of like them. They just need some sheet music.
