THIS IS THE BEST FROM MY COLLECTION OF LOCAL FOSSILS. IN THE PERMIAN PERIOD DURING THE LATE CRETACEOUS TEXAS WAS COVERED BY A SHALLOW SEA. THIS EXTENDED TO ALL THE EARLY OIL PRODUCING AREAS HENCE THE NAME PERMIAN. IN SOME PLACES FOSSILS LITERALLY COVER THE GROUND. I USED TO SPEND MY LUNCH BREAK LOOKING FOR FOSSILS. THE FOSSIL LAYER WAS RIGHT ON TOP OF THE SOIL. THERE WAS NO SOIL. JUST ROCKS AND SAND. WHICH IS UNFAIR BECAUSE WE HAD BEAUTIFUL WILD FLOWERS IN THE SPRING IN GREAT PROFUSION. I…
