Collage Cats

Last month 4th graders followed the lead of vintage collage artist Denise Fiedler (see her website here) to collage dogs from recycled newspaper and construction paper scraps. This month 3rd graders tried their hand at it producing cats. We started with a Smartboard lesson where students identified the basic geometric shapes they could see in cats, outlining the shapes with the whiteboard markers. Then, following some basic steps on the board, children cut and pasted to make their kitties…

March of the Penguins

Ella, 1st grade Reese, 1st grade Aven, Kinder Campbell, Kinder Izzy, Kinder Jolie, Kinder Kaden, 2nd grade Kate, Kinder Lauren, Kinder My classes looked at the illustrations in the children's book, Solo by Paul Geraghty. It's the story of a young penguin who is left alone in the icy Antarctic for the first time. My students drew their penguins on pale pink construction paper so they could see their white chalk pastel shading for the penguin face and body. Heads were done in Sharpie or…

Frog Art Making

Last week my class made these adorable frog artworks. We read a frog based story that complemented our unit of work on water. I cannot remember the title, but when I am back at school I will find it! Here are just a few of them. I started with a 'directed drawing' and then guided the students through completing their artwork with oil pastel and a thin paint wash. We mounted them on thin card and then drew a few white oil pastel clouds on them also. My students loved making these and they…

Plakboek: Fine Lines: Kindergarten peacocks

Peacocks Galore!!

I spent an hour this morning looking for a Pinterest post to show you an artist making peacock feathers out of coffee filters, cutting them into plumes and creating a wonderful, proud peacock. That was my inspiration for having kindergarteners using coffee filters for their tails -- however, I couldn't find the post. But thanks to whoever that was -- I hadn't thought of using filters in that way. All classes started by viewing photos of peacocks on the Smartboard and discussing the colors…

MUSSOLS

MUSSOLS - Alumnes de 2n Uhu, uhu! Mira, mira.

Easy and Inexpensive...Paper Mache Bird's Nests

Yaay! Spring has finally sprung here in Georgia and soon the birds will begin building their nests! Not to be outdone, I have created a few little nests of my own to bring a little touch of spring indoors. Not only were they easy, but they were super inexpensive as well. And…you are not going to believe what they are made of! Brown paper lunch bags and glue! Yep…you read that right! Here’s what you will need: Lunch bags (approximately two per nest, depending on the size) that have been…
