Himeji castle is a hilltop Japanese castle complex located in Himeji, in the Hyogo Prefecture. The castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 buildings with advanced defensive systems in the feudal period. The castle dates to 1333. It was expanded in 1581, 1601-1609, 1617-1618.
