I wanted to share some pictures from our gold rush gallery walk that we did this week! We have been reading lots of books, singing songs, and learning vocabulary all about the gold rush, however I wanted my students to see and reflect on some real pictures from that time! I found a variety of …

It's Monday and I'm linking up with Tara again! I'm loving Monday Made Its! Although it usually takes me until at least Friday to get through all the wonderful posts people have been sharing. And my to do list grows longer each day. We may need a "Friday Finished It" linky party if I soon don't stop starting all these wonderful projects and then get sidetracked by a new one! This week I did accomplished a few things in between blog stalking and project starting. The first is my new math game…

Free graphing and shape recognition activity for the 100th day of school. This is a wonderful activity for Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Children

My kids love 3-D shapes even more than they love 2-D shapes! They are super excited to learn everything they can about them, so that makes my job very easy. As always, hands-on exploration is essential in order for students to develop a solid understanding of 3-D shapes. So we play and explore a lot! I let the kids explore 3-D shapes by building, stacking, rolling, etc. Then, together, we create an achor chart. We describe the shapes using both formal and informal language (so the kids can…

I hate it when I have a day off and I can't sleep in. My body is just to used to getting up at 5:00 AM. So here I am blogging and blog stalking when I wish I could be sleeping. Maybe I can't sleep because I'm excited about my new packet. I think it's pretty cool. We've been working on Shapes for the past few weeks and I put together a packet of some of the things we did. This is a great activity for analyzing and composing shapes. My kids LOVE! This is a fun game where the kiddos get to use…

I have a new shape unit for this coming school year. This unit can be used in both Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten! Every year I am frustrated with the type of activities I have for teaching flat and solid shapes. I never have everything I want to teach all on one page. So, I made some! Each shape study page has a sentence, a tracing element, a picture element and a writing element. It is my hope that by using all of these elements together in one lesson the information will sink…

Awhile back I saw this pin and kept thinking I need to do that. It took me longer than I wanted but I finally got around to getting it together. I bought a \$1 pack of kids' size clothes hangers. The wire ones may be easier to get the shirts on and off of though. I made these little shirts and punched a hole in the top. The original pin focused on making sums to 10. Below you can see where we've practiced doing that but I also wanted to include the shirts with numbers 1-10 for preK and kinder…

Geoboards have always been a love-hate thing for me. I love all that students can do and learn on a geoboard. But, there are always a few students who want to shoot the rubberbands at other students. Usually at least one student snaps a rubberband and hurts his or her finger. If only they could use them for their intended purpose! I tried using these cotton loops as a substitute: Click HERE to check them out. The cotton loops solved the problems with rubberbands flying across the room. The…
