Helmet. 16th Century, Turkey. Iron with silver and gold. This helmet would have protected the head and the sides of the neck, where chain mail would have cascaded from the rim of the helmet. The inscription says ‘Honour to our master the Sultan, Lord of the Peoples’ necks, of the Kings of the Turks, the Arabs and the Persians. Glory lies in humility, fortune in contentment’.
