Kissing Stieglitz Goodbye

Every city in America is approached through a work of art, usually a bridge but sometimes a road that curves underneath or drops down from the sky. Pittsburgh has a tunnel— you don't know it—that takes you through the rivers and under the burning hills. I went there to cry in the woods or carry…

“Equivalents” – las nubes de Alfred Stieglitz

Hablando del cielo y de las nubes, acabo de leer la primera entrada del interesantísimo libro Bilder der Photographie - Ein Album photographischer Metaphern ("Imágenes de la Fotografía - Un álbum de metáforas fotográficas") de Bernd Stiegler sobre la serie de nubes de Alfred Stieglitz. Cuenta la historia que a raíz de un comentario que…

Alfred Stieglitz (January 1, 1864 – July 13, 1946) was an American photographer and modern art promoter who was instrumental over his fifty-year career in making photography an accepted art form. In addition to his photography, Stieglitz was known for the New York art galleries that he ran in the early part of the 20th century, where he introduced many avant-garde European artists to the U.S. He was married to painter Georgia O'Keeffe.

Alfred Stieglitz | Hodge Kirnon | The Met

One of the least well known and most beautiful of Stieglitz's portraits, this photograph depicts Hodge Kirnon, a man Stieglitz saw in passing every day. When preparing to close his historic gallery "291" in 1917 as a result of World War I, Stieglitz assessed his work and life and saw that Kirnon--who operated the elevator that transported the gallery's visitors, its critics, and its provocative modern art--had been a true fellow passenger on the momentous trip
