Turkish ‘two-sided embroidery’ (front and rear are identical). Could also be used as an apron in festive women’s costumes (generally in Thrace and northwest Anatolia).

One end (+ detail) of a ‘yağlık’ (large handkerchief or hand towel). Crimean Tatar, from Turkey, ca. 1900. Called 'evciyar' in Crimean Turkish. Linen, 45 x 152 cm. The traditional Anatolian motif of rose, surrounded by hyacinths and placed in a vase, is repeated 3 times along the width of cloth. Height of the embroidery (from the tip of square decorations in metallic thread to the end of cloth: 25 cm. (The Asiye-Zeynep Collection, Washington DC).
