Upon researching different fonts and typography in general, I came across the concept of a drop cap. A drop cap is the use of a large letter often decorated very elaborately at the beginning of a segment of text. Having seen these used in books, it was interesting to learn the purpose of these letters/pieces of art, drawing the reader into the story by immediately pulling their eye to the first line of text.
