9/11: The Photographers' Stories, Part 3—"You're Too Close"
9/11 /// A day that our hearts broke but Obama's Muslim Pastor and friend ,Jeremiah Wright, said "America's chickens have finally come home to ROOST!" In other words we deserved it. He is also known as saying, "Not God Bless America!" "God Damn America!"
Two people holding hands while falling to their death from the WTC on 9/11.That terrible day I was sitting in the cafeteria where they had set up a big screen TV. We had several people, from a country I won't mention, working there, and during most of these scenes they were laughing & making remarks. I was so shocked that I couldn't even say anything. Terrible day & a terrible memory.
I will never forget this day as long as I live. I was watching Bryant Gumbel on a morning news show and he was announcing that a small plane had hit the World Trade Center and as we watched in horror, the commercial airliner slammed into the other building and all he or I could say was "Oh My God"....I said, Bryant Gumpel said it at the same time, over and over...its was all you could say because you knew it was no longer an accident and that a lot of people were about to die.
9/11/2001 A firefighter arriving looks up at the daunting task he is required to participate in , the heavy firefighting equipment alone that needed hauled up the 110 floors of the building he was assigned to attend at, would exhaust this extremely fit firefighter and most went up but never had the opportunity to come down so bravely continued fighting the flames until crushed to death as the tower collapsed
What all they saw, is hard for us to imagine. One firefighter said people were jumping out by the dozens and you could hear them whistling as they came down. How very heart sickening is that? Those poor people. Those poor firefighters
Firefighter Kevin Shea of Ladder 35 lies semi-conscious in debris field with Firefighter Ritchie Nogan of 113 standing over him. Shea was the only survivor of his unit. He was carried out by Nogan, two EMS workers and photographer Todd Maisel. (Photo by Todd Maisel/NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images)
