Known as the dhara or nara. The traditional dress of Khasi women in Shillong, situated in the North Eastern part of India. The dress is worn only during occasions or grand ceremonies like weddings. For daily use the Khasi women wear Jainsem.
This is called Nara Shad. Predominantly used on the occasion of the Shad Suk Mynsiem (Dance with a Happy Soul); a thanks giving dance that takes place every year during the month of April.
The 'Mukhli' is the most admired among young ladies. The white silk with only a simple red border. To even make it affordable to everyone, there is an imitation as well which is available at a lesser price.
Another Mukhli with a sober colour combination. This is mostly worn by elderly women.
As years progressed, so did the designs in our traditional dress evolved. From traditionally accepted designs to the ones custom made for an individual.
Traditionally this is the combination that most elderly women prefers. Designs have however changed with the change of time.
